Former Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. stockbroker Mithcell Yanow barred indefinitely by FINRA for elder fraud abuse

Mitchell Yanow (Mitchell Toby Yanow) has consented to a sanction from FINRA (the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority). FINRA is a non-governmental regulator of securities firms that focuses on investor protection and market integrity through effective and efficient regulation of the securities industry. In July 2018 Mitchell Yanow was barred indefinitely from practicing as a broker. Mitchell Yanow worked for Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. Inc. in Boca Raton, Florida from 2015 to 2018.

Mitchell Yanow was previously associated with Oppenheimer & Co, Inc; Wachovia Securities LLC; UBS Financial Services, Inc;.

FINRA alleges that Mitchell Yanow engaged in the following misconduct: converting funds from an elder customer’s brokerage account.

FINRA’s investigation found that Yanow was responsible for abuse involving an elder customer’s account. The customer had provided Yanow with blank checks so that Yanow could pay the customer’s caregivers for their services in the event that the customer ever could not. Instead, Yanow used the blank checks to convert at least $205,586 from the customer’s account to finance Yanow’s own personal expenses, including a luxury automobile and his own overdue homeowner fees. Yanow has neither admitted nor denied FINRA’s findings.

Mitchell Yanow has been the subject of at least 1 customer disputes.
