A FINRA Panel awarded claimant Kathy Piniewski compensatory and punitive damages, as well as attorney fees, in her arbitration against investment firm Royal Alliance Associates, Inc.
Piniewski asserted claims for common law fraud, negligent misrepresentation and omission, breach of fiduciary duty, negligence, breach of contract, respondeat superior, and failure to supervise.
According to the FINRA award, the dispute related to Piniewski’s purchase of Inland American REIT and Permian Basin Oil and Gas Trust.
The Panel awarded Piniewski $36,788.91 in compensatory damages, plus $6,265.64 in interest; punitive damages in the amount of $4,086.00, which included disgorgement of commissions and management fees; and $33,500 in attorneys’ fees.
