Former Madison Avenue Securities Broker David Lloyd Barber Consents to Permanent Ban from Securities Industry after Customer Obtains $1.67 million FINRA Arbitration Award

David Lloyd Barber (David Barber) has consented to a sanction from FINRA (the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority). FINRA is a non-governmental regulator of securities firms that focuses on investor protection and market integrity through effective and efficient regulation of the securities industry. In March 2018 David Barber was barred permanently from practicing as a broker. David Barber worked for Madison Avenue Securities in San Diego, California from March 2015 to January 2018.

David Barber was previously associated with First Midwest Securities and Raymond James.

FINRA alleges that David Barber engaged in the following misconduct: failed to respond to a FINRA investigation into allegations that he engaged in authorized trading in his Madison Avenue customers’ accounts.

Barber previously consented to FINRA fine of $25,000 and 4-month suspension in February 2013. In January 2018, a former customer of Barber obtained a favorable FINRA arbitration award against Barber and Madison Avenue Securities, which included over $800,000 in compensatory damages, over $800,000 in punitive damages, and over $450,000 in attorney’s fees and costs. The arbitration claims related to sales of Chesapeake Energy, Westport Innovations, Pacific Drilling SA Luxembourg, BP Capital Twinline Energy Fund, Twitter, GoPro, and other investments.

David Barber has been the subject of at least 3 customer disputes.
